Two metro-east men were charged in connection with several residential burglaries in Granite City.
Kevin M. Britton, 21, of the 200 block of West Union Street in Edwardsville, was charged Thursday by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office with eight counts of residential burglary.
Sterling D. Harrell, 20, of 1211 Bissell St. in Madison, was charged with three counts of residential burglary.
On Wednesday, Granite City Police took two suspects into custody in connection with several burglaries reported between June 16 and Wednesday.
During several of the reported burglaries, the suspect or suspects knocked on the front door of a residence. If they received no answer, they entered the home through an unlocked front door or window, according to Granite City Detective Lt. Mike Nordstrom.
A variety of property was stolen, including televisions, laptops, tablets, video games and jewelry.
A suspect vehicle, a black Chevrolet Cobalt, missing a front driver-side hubcap, was discovered by police after being involved in a crash at the intersection of Rock Road and Illinois 3. Several stolen property items were discovered inside the vehicle during the crash, Nordstrom said.
The occupants of the vehicle, Britton and Harrell, were taken into custody, Nordstrom said.
