Madison County man accused of resisting arrest, injuring deputy

A Madison County man faces a felony charge after he allegedly fled from and then fought with a sheriff's deputy, injuring the law enforcement officer in the process.

According to sheriff's department reports, at about 11 a.m. Saturday a deputy saw two men make a hand-to-hand transaction in an area in the 3000 block of Godfrey Road in Godfrey known for drug activity. When he approached the suspects, they both fled on foot.

The deputy chased and eventually caught one of the men, identified later as Eric Leon Lacey, 45, of Central Avenue in Alton. Lacey allegedly resisted arrest and injured the deputy's elbow in the process.

On Monday afternoon, Lacey was charged with a felony county of resisting a police officer. His bail was set at $25,000.
