Police shoot Granite City man after confrontation

A Granite City man with a weapon was shot by a Granite City police officer after a confrontation Saturday.

The man was rushed to an undisclosed St. Louis hospital, where he remained Saturday night. His condition was not available.

Three others were taken to area hospitals and released.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said the man shot by the police officer had threatened the officer with a weapon. Doiron did not disclose what type of weapon the man had.

"We are still investigating," Doiron said.

Doiron did not release the names of either the officer or the others involved in the case.

Doiron said one of the individuals was hurt inside a house at 2440 Delmar Ave.

Illinois State Police are investigating the officer involved shooting while Granite City police are investigating what happened at the Delmar residence that warranted police intervention.

Doiron said police officers were dispatched to the residence after they received a call at 2:42 p.m. reporting a disturbance at the residence. He said there was a confrontation between one of the officers who responded to the residence and "one of the individuals from the house" and a shooting took place.
