Man faces DUI charges in Edwardsville crash

A 20-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence charges after a crash Sunday in Edwardsville that left three people injured.

Jonathan Schienschang, of Edwardsville, was charged Monday with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm.

Schienschang was being held Tuesday in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.

Edwardsville police responded to a crash about 6:47 a.m. Sunday at Hillsboro Avenue and North Buchanan Street.

Police believe Schienschang was headed north on Buchanan Street and did not stop at a stop sign. His vehicle hit another vehicle, and the two vehicles were then pushed into a third southbound vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign.

Schienschang was charged with aggravated DUI "because of the serious injuries to the two subjects transported by Arch," said Edwardsville Police Lt. Michael Fillback.

Schienschang also was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

A driver of one vehicle and a passenger of another vehicle were flown to St. Louis University Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Fillback said.

A driver of another vehicle had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Anderson Hospital, Fillback said.

Illinois State Police assisted with crash reconstruction.
