Ex-judge's daughter accused of shoplifting

The daughter of a former St. Clair County judge already facing a misdemeanor charge accusing her of striking a person with her car has now been charged with stealing clothes from Target in Belleville.

Katherine C. O'Malley, 33, of Belleville, is accused of stealing a shirt and a pair of pants on Monday from the store at the Belleville Crossing shopping complex. She was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor retail theft.

She is the daughter of former Judge Michael O'Malley and the former girlfriend of convicted heroin dealer Sean McGilvery.

Katherine O'Malley struck former Althoff Catholic High School basketball standout Kevin Lisch July 5 as he walked along Country Club Lane near Belleville, according to a crash report. A citation against O'Malley for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident is pending in court.

Lisch, 28, currently plays professional basketball in Spain.

O'Malley, who was being held in the St. Clair County Jail Wednesday afternoon, has nearly 50 other traffic tickets in St. Clair County. O'Malley's bail is set at $5,000.

O'Malley settled a lawsuit against her in August 2013 alleging she caused a two-vehicle accident. The amount of the settlement was not available in court records.

Arsie Dale sought more than $15,000 alleging O'Malley was speeding and failed to reduce speed to avoid rear-ending Dale's vehicle while driving Aug. 30, 2012. Dale sought compensation for injuries and other damages in the lawsuit.

McGilvery admitted to selling heroin to former Circuit Judge Michael Cook and is serving a 10-year prison sentence. Cook is serving a two-year prison sentence on drug and weapons charges.
