Troy man charged with felony for spitting in deputy's face

A Troy man has been charged with felony aggravated battery after he spit in the face of a deputy who responded to a domestic disturbance.

Curt B. Haeffner, 26, of 713 Cheshire Drive, was being restrained by his stepfather after allegedly striking his mother when deputies arrived to a call from his mother's home in the 5400 block of Maryville Road in rural Granite City.

Haeffner's mother told deputies she was called by Pontoon Beach police at 5:30 a.m. Sunday who told her that her son was sleeping on the porch of a stranger's home. His mother and stepfather went to the house to pick up Haeffner, who police said appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and looked as if he had been in a fight.

About half an hour later, deputies were called to the suspect's mother's house with a complaint that an argument had become physical.

Haeffner was arrested for striking his mother; as he was taken into custody, he allegedly spit in a deputy's face. He was taken to the Madison County jail on $50,000 bail.
