Failed escape: Edwardsville woman fights with police

An Edwardsville woman who allegedly fought with cops as they tried to take her to jail has been charged with resisting a police officer and disorderly conduct.

According to Madison County Sheriff's Department reports, Edwardsville Police Department officers were transporting Alishia L. A. Johnson, 22, of 249 W. Union St., when she became violent.

Johnson, who was originally arrested Saturday evening on the charge of disorderly conduct, allegedly tried to pull away from police and jail deputies when she arrived at the jail. A deputy's arm reportedly was caught in handcuffs as Johnson tried to pull away, causing bruises on his forearm.

Charges were filed Tuesday. Johnson's bail was set at $20,000.
