Police say a man who was shot in the leg in Washington Park Saturday night was not the intended target.
Washington Park Police Chief Tony Tomlinson said Sunday the man was walking west along Caseyville Avenue near 48th Street around 10 p.m. when someone opened fire from an opened rear window of a white Pontiac Grand Prix that was passing by. The car had tinted windows.
Tomlinson said his officers believe a nearby house, not the man, was the target. Police recovered a single shell casing in the area.
The man was not seriously injured in the shooting.

Tomlinson added that a robbery that occurred in East St. Louis Friday night involved a car that matched the description of the car involved in Saturday’s shooting.
A woman leaving the Casino Queen parking lot was boxed in by two vehicles — one of them a white Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows— and robbed her of her winnings. Tomlinson said four black males were involved in the East St. Louis robbery and that three of them wore masks.
