A special Belleville Police Department unit on Monday arrested a man who was involved in a domestic incident the day before.
According to Master Sgt. Mark Heffernan, officers first responded to the home in the 300 block of South 8th Street Sunday for a report of a domestic disturbance. A female reported she’d been battered by the man.
When police arrived, the 23-year-old man fled in the woman’s Pontiac sedan. Officers pursued the man but terminated the chase when he left city limits.
Heffernan said police received a tip that the man had returned to the residence Monday morning. At first, no one would come to the door when officers arrived.
“The special response team was brought in based on the suspect’s actions yesterday,” Heffernan said.
The suspect emerged when the special response team ordered all occupants from the house.
The man, who was not identified by police Monday, remains in custody related to the incident and also because he has an active warrant in Missouri.
No one was injured during the police action.
