Police were searching Friday for two men suspected of robbing the Granite City Waffle House earlier in the day.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Waffle House on West Chain of Rocks Road early Friday morning after two men robbed the restaurant. The first suspect was described as a black male wearing a camouflage shirt, tan pants and black ski mask. The other suspect was described as a black male wearing a black thermal shirt, black pants with a white stripe.

There were two employees on duty and a few patrons were present, according to Capt. William Dimitroff of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Dimitroff said that after some interaction with the employees, the man in the ski mask discharged his gun away from the patrons and employees. However, no one was injured in the course of the robbery, he said.

The men escaped from the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money, Dimitroff said. Further details of the robbery were not released.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call the Madison County Sheriff’s Department at 692-4433 or the anonymous tip line at 296-3000.
