In an effort to support building principals at the two of the district's largest elementary schools, Belleville District 118 school board promoted a teacher to serve as an administrator intern during Tuesday night's meeting.
Jamie Buss will serve as an administrator intern at both Westhaven and Abraham Lincoln elementary schools this school year. Buss was previously employed as a multi-subject teacher at Central Junior High and does have education administrator certification.
Superintendent Matt Klosterman said the administrator intern is a pilot position the district is trying this year. "This was an option we thought was manageable," he said.
Buss' salary will remain the same. However, she will receive a one-time stipend of $2,500.
"I look forward to helping them in anyway I can," Buss said of Abraham Lincoln Principal Ed Langen and Westhaven Principal Geoff Schwalenberg.
Board members hired seven new teachers: Samantha Briggs, Central Junior High; Tyler Castiller, Central; Jesseca Musso, Union School; Jennifer Stroot, Abraham Lincoln; Chelsea Terveer, Abraham Lincoln; Lindsey Wells, district-wide music teacher; and Cheyanne Rickert, Henry Raab.
The board also rehired 10 para professionals who were honorably dismissed at the end of last school year and 12 new para professionals.
In other business, the board approved the following:
* A 3 percent increase in fees for the district's before and after school care program.
* A nearly $60,000 lease-purchase agreement for laptop computers for students.
* $59,900 for additional security cameras at the following schools: Franklin, Washington, Henry Raab, Union, Abraham Lincoln and Roosevelt.
