Crews finally reopened southbound Interstate 255 near Illinois 157 near Cahokia just before 6 a.m. Tuesday after a semi-tractor carrying a load of steel overturned just after midnight.

The eighteen-wheeler was traveling southbound on Interstate 255 about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when it clipped the edge of a road crew truck striping the side of the road, according to Cahokia Fire Chief David Nulsen.

After the semi clipped the striping truck it crashed through guard rail, went down an embankment, overturned and slid until it stopped in the back yard of a home in the 1700 block of Parklane Drive.

The truck slid to a stop about 50 yards before hitting the home.

No one in the striping truck was injured. The truck driver received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
