Search is on for driver who led police on chase from Illinois 15 to ESL

BELLEVILLE -- Police were continuing their search Friday for a driver who led officers on a chase from Illinois 15 to East St. Louis.

An officer attempted to stop a Pontiac for a traffic violation at 8:17 a.m. Wednesday, Capt. Don Sax stated in a news release.

"The driver with one passenger fled from the officer and a pursuit ensued onto (Illinois) 15 ending just outside the city limits for safety reasons," Sax said.

Detectives later found the vehicle and took into custody the lone passenger who was in the vehicle. The passenger was released without charges.
