closeLt. James Morrisey is the first trooper from Illinois State Police District 11 in Collinsville to attend the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy.
He will leave for the three-month academy later this week.
Participation is by invitation only, though a nomination process. Participants are drawn from every state in the union, from U.S. territories, and from over 150 international partner nations.
Morrisey, head of investigations for District 11, began the application process last year by submitting his resume, completing an interview, submitting fingerprints and a background check.
He found out in January that he was selected.
"It's going to be a lot of work, but I am looking forward to it," Morrisey said.
Morrisey will attend a variety of law enforcement courses at the Quantico, Virginia, such as behavioral science, leadership, communication and forensic science. The academy also requires stringent physical training, Morrisey said.
Morrisey is married and has three children.
