Current Mayor John Miller defeated City Councilman Mike Tognarelli in the race Tuesday for mayor of Collinsville.
“I want to continue on with what we have been doing,” Miller said. “We have worked hard for the past 10 years to make the city what’s it’s become.”
Miller will be sworn in with two new City Council members, Richard “Jeff” Stehman and Cheryl Brombolich.
“We need to get them going and let them get their feet wet,” Miller said.
Miller hoped for a bigger turnout, but he said the weather and voter apathy worked against voters hitting the polls on Tuesday.
Tognarelli, a 42-year employee of Collinsville’s Street Department, could not be reached for comment. Tognarelli, 61, said he wanted to give back to the city. He ran for City Council in 2011.
Miller, 67, said he wants another term to complete projects such as Collins Park, Route 159 expansion, and Eastport Plaza.
With all precincts reporting, here were the vote totals:
“I’m very glad that it turned out the way it did,” Miller said. “I’m thankful the voters returned me to office to allow me to continue moving the city forward.”
