ALBION, Ill. -- A southern Illinois couple have been ordered to stand trial in the death of a 5-year-old boy last spring.
Edwards County Circuit Judge David Frankland held 25-year-old Joshua Nash and 24-year-old Crystal Nash of Carmi over for trial on felony counts of drug-induced homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
Crystal Nash was Jason Hoy's mother, and Joshua Nash was the boy's stepfather.
Authorities say the boy ingested a headache medicine containing codeine before being found unresponsive in June in the family's home. He later died at a hospital.
An autopsy reportedly determined that the boy had roughly eight times the recommended dosage in his body when he died, with that toxicity listed as the cause of death.
