Limericks from our readers
There once was a girl from Nantucket ... well, never mind about that. But it is time for our second annual politics and public limerick contest. The contest started on Groundhog Day and runs until April Fools' Day.
To submit a limerick, e-mail them to lbrowning@bnd.com or mail them to Limerick Contest, Belleville News-Democrat, 120 S. Illinois St., P.O. Box 427, Belleville, IL 62222. We'll run entires for the week on Thursdays. The winner will receive a basket of Irish food items, and the runner-up will get a Limerick Street sign.
To play along, limericks are five-line ditties; the first, second and fifth lines should rhyme, and the third and fourth lines should be a different rhyme.
Here's one from us:
There once was a paper indeed
Who let all of you take the lead
You sent us your stuff
It was funny enough
And now they are ready to read ...
