President Harry Truman said, "The buck stops here." President Obama should take this to heart.
The list is long and growing of Obama appointees whose job performance has been less than stellar. Former appointees, all of whom resigned, include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (Benghazi), VA Secretary Eric Shinseki (VA scandal), Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius (failed Obamacare rollout). Others like Attorney General Eric Holder ("Fast and Furious" and others) and IRS Commissioner John Koskinen (IRS scandal) are still in office but embroiled in kerfuffles of their own.
These appointees have all shown a propensity toward misplaced loyalty, primarily to their boss rather than to the American people. Despite sometimes abhorrent performance, loyalty appears to work both ways.
About the only senior leader POTUS has fired was Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who made the mistake of complaining about the administration in public.
In the military culture, leaders are often terminated simply for loss of confidence in their leadership ability. There are considerable loss of confidence issues to be considered with this collection of Obama appointees.
When significant problems arise, good leaders ante up to the bar, come clean and then focus on solutions. Instead this group perpetuates dilemmas through denials and lip service.
They could learn a thing or two from recently deceased Howard Baker, of Watergate investigation fame, who opined, "It is almost always the coverup rather than the event that causes trouble."
POTUS gets the last vote on actions warranted based on his subordinates' poor performance. The American people will be watching.
