Silently, how silently good people often slip away from us unnoticed and without the acclaim they deserve.
On June 24, Belleville lost one of its prized citizens -- an individual whose dedication to serving others was not only remarkable, it was uninterrupted for decades until her health forced her move to Nashville, Tenn.
At over 75 years of age, she began researching and authored a book on the history of race relations in St. Clair County. She generously donated her manuscript to Racial Harmony for preservation and possible publication.
This dedicated citizen and volunteer was Carolyn Chapman. She deserves our thanks and her family our deepest sympathy and appreciation for sharing her with the dozens of local civic organizations she served so faithfully.
