Nothing to fear about expanded voting

Regarding the editorial that stated, "Gov. Pat Quinn said he wants voting to be 'as easy as possible.' Well, mission accomplished. It's so easy now, we fear for vote fraud."

The crux of the article was to obfuscate that we have extremely low voter turnout and we need to make it easier, not harder, to get our citizens to participate meaningfully in our federal republic -- not just forwarding e-mails or pressing the "like" button on social media.

Further, who fears voter fraud? This unsupported assertion does not reflect the statistics that document voter fraud is very, very rare. We are talking a handful in statewide elections.

As for this issue, all we have to fear is fear itself. We all need to engage our fellow citizens to register, educate themselves on the candidates and issues, and vote. We have very little excuse now in Illinois.
