Understandable reaction

Letters by Elizabeth Brown, Brent Rains and Betty Storll in the July 25 Belleville News- Democrat point to dissatisfaction with our government, and rightly so.

A prime source of dissatisfaction with our government now is the illegal immigration issue. It reminds me of what a Canadian once said about American draft-dodgers converging on Canada. The Canadian said: "We did not want your undesirables then or now. Not a one of us in the workplace enjoyed having an American using us until we weren't needed anymore." We do not want those illegal immigrants from south of our border anymore than the Canadians wanted our undesirables from south of their border.

As Rains said in his letter: "Remember, government is the answer." Edmund Burke once said: "Government is a contrivance of human wisdom to provide for human wants." And that seems to be sorely lacking in our government today.
