Our duty to take voting seriously

Our system of representative government allows the people to periodically dismiss those elected officials who no longer represent their views. One should never vote for someone simply because of name recognition or party designation. If all citizens would take this duty of voting seriously, there would be far less chance of our lifestyle, and that of our children and grandchildren, being hijacked by smooth-talking, inexperienced politicians. Citizens need to learn what their candidates stand for or have done in the past.
