Congratulations to two Belleville West senior classmates and football teammates Sherand Boyd and Austin Seibert. Tonight Normal West High School is scheduled to play Belleville West at Belleville's Lindenwood University.
I have known Sherand and Austin for more than eight years and their families for more than 30 years. Sherand played basketball for me at Nelson Mandela School for my R.J. Krause All-Stars. Sherand's mother played shortstop and was my captain when I was the head softball coach at East Side.
I have known Austin's father and grandparents through local government.
Sherand is the quarterback at Belleville West and Austin is the punter, kicker and kickoff specialist for West. In my 50 years of watching high school football, he is the best I've ever seen by one player.
Sherand is being looked at by many universities. Recently Austin, who is ranked the No. 1 punter, gave a verbal agreement to Oklahoma University.
My brother, Russell Krause, and my R.J. Krause All-Stars and I will arrive at the game at 6 p.m. so we can watch Sherand and Austin do their program drills.
If you are at a game, make sure you watch Austin. You can hear his kicks and see the football almost explode off his right foot. I predict that Austin will kick a field goal at 68 yards or more this season in a game.
Sherand and Austin are great friends and have known each other since they played baseball. I am so proud of those two individuals.
I would like the Belleville News-Democrat to do a feature story on both of them together.
