I want to thank the voters of Ward 7 for letting me represent them on the Belleville City Council from 1993-2001. There is no greater sense of pride than to be elected by one’s neighbors to represent them.
With that said, I want to apologize for encouraging them to vote for Phil Elmore for alderman. Phil asked for my help in 2009 when he ran for City Council. I asked him why he was running, and he convinced me that he was concerned about the neighborhood and wanted to make sure it would remain strong. He told me he was an “independent voice.” Nothing could have been further from the truth. He turned out to be a bobbleheaded puppet for Mayor Mark Eckert. Within two years, he was knocking on St. Clair County Democratic Party Chairman Bob Sprague’s door, wanting to be a Democratic state representative. Then, two years later, he wanted to be the mayor. Now he wants to be an alderman again. His past votes on the council prove he will vote how Eckert tells him.
The residents of Ward 7 deserve better. Wayne Munie is a true independent voice. He is truly concerned about the neighborhood and the city. He does not have political aspirations other than the City Council. He will represent the people, not the administration. Please vote for Munie on Tuesday.
