It was sad to see BND letter writer Tim Buchanan has such a heartburn over the potential conflicts of interest he claims would happen if some Swansea trustee candidates are elected.
It’s true candidate Doris Rebenstorff’s husband works on the road crew. But with 35 years of inside information about the workings of the street department, I would consider that a plus. Who knows more about the condition of the roads, troubles with storm drains and location of long-lost sewer lines that a 35-year employee?
Doris has not idly sat by, volunteering for CASA for many years. She also sits on the Swansea Planning and Zoning Committee and also drives the Swansea senior van, driving more than 3,800 miles last year transporting 86 seniors to doctor appointments and 503 others seniors to the grocery store, banks and other locations. She also ran the Swansea Christmas program, giving up a month of her time taking applications, doing endless paperwork and shopping to ensure each child got at least one gift of his or her choosing.
Yes, conflicts of interest do occur some times. But Buchanan failed to mention another Swansea candidate is a lawyer. Would voters rather have two firefighters on the board or two lawyers? Only the voters can decide on Tuesday.
