I want to thank everyone who attended the March 23 Swansea committee meeting to protest the proposed ordinance to ban the burning of landscape waste. Due to the large turnout, the committee meeting was postponed and is being rescheduled at a larger venue. The rescheduled committee meeting will be on at 6 p.m. Monday at the Wolf Branch Middle School gymnasium. The April Swansea Report shows the committee meeting at the Swansea Government Center and that is incorrect. The Swansea Report was mailed before the change in venue was made.
I ask that people who are against the no-burning ban reach out to their neighbors and friends and plan to attend this meeting. It is important that a large number of Swansea residents attend this meeting to let the current and incoming trustees know that the total ban on burning yard waste is not needed or wanted.
The burn ordinance currently in effect allows for burning from April 1 to June 15 and from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That is a total of 39 days or 195 hours allowed to burn yard waste.
This ordinance is adequate for most residents and does not require any changes. Make yourself heard. Say “ no” to the proposed ordinance to ban burning.
Several petitions against the ban have been submitted to the Board of Trustees and we will have additional petitions at the Wolf Branch Middle School gymnasium. This is not over.
