Are money trees real? No and thank God for that. Although some taxing districts think they are. Ask any taxpayer, they know better. We get multiple requests for additional funds from Springfield, because of shortfalls in funding. As a taxpayer where do you think Springfield get its money? Is it from a tree? No, it’s out of your pocket and don’t you ever forget it.
We have got to stop nibbling on the state’s dangling carrot with the promise of added funding, because when you do that the state is going to reach into your pocket for the money. They will create a new department to administer it and a regulatory department to decide if you qualify and the amount you may or may not get.
There will have to be employees, a CEO, office space, equipment, insurance, utilities, Social Security insurance, IMRF, all this and more before it ever trickles down to you. Think of all the trees for all the added paper work. But mostly, how little money is left for distribution and maybe you won’t even get any.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to keep the money right here and not send it to Springfield? I believe as a taxpayer I would rather keep the money here. In the long run you would get more bang from the buck. Think about it, stop asking Springfield, there’s always a better way to fund our schools and taxing bodies.
