I read in the paper that St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is allowed to leave Belleville and build a new hospital in O’Fallon. The justification for the move is just that. It’s not about serving or better serving, especially the poor. That’s a joke.
They want a nice new place, and to leave behind the old place they’ve neglected for years. They see Belleville’s decline, and they don’t want to be around to deal with it or be around when it falls in on top of them.
Like most things, St. E’s is far removed from how it began; it’s about the money, not health care. Health care is just the way to the money.
In Belleville, St. E’s is the Chicago Cardinals of hospitals. R.I.P.
Never miss a local story.
