Collinsville Mayor John Miller was re-elected and sworn in on May 11. Miller is a retired firefighter and previous information showed he was receiving annual retirement benefits of $40,000.
Prior to conducting city business, he said that the state Fire Marshal was presenting awards to five firefighters.
It is ironic that a May 11 BND article on lower property insurance rates showed Collinsville only better than East Saint Louis out of eight surrounding municipalities. Business and every one of our homeowners is paying more due to water access and failure of our Fire Department to obtain a favorable rating from a national firm that grades the effectiveness of fire departments.
There is a sizable cost of running the city Economic Development, Planning and Uptown Development commissions. Being second to last in fire protection in our region is a tough sell for those commissions.
Never miss a local story.
