Be prepared to be shocked: I actually agree with parts of Gene Robke’s recent letter to the BND.
I agree that Tax Increment Financing is a hydra-headed monster that must be slain. TIFs have been greatly abused and are used way beyond their intended purpose and have increased our property taxes.
If a business wants to build in our area, let the business pay for it, but let’s make this process simpler. We need a simple U.S. tax code that provides fair taxation for all income levels. Everyone should have to share the burden but be reasonable.
The company I work for does pay corporate earnings income tax; we are not an off-shore company. Congress and the president should end this shelter program. President Obama did not do this when he had both houses of Congress.
As far as heirs, I believe all of us can agree that Stan Kroenke, a Wal-Mart heir by marriage, is a louse.
Finally, on minimum wage: If McDonald’s franchises increase wages to $15 an hour, are we prepared to pay more for a Big Mac or fries? Labor is about 45 percent of a company’s overall costs so they have to make up the difference in their cost of goods sold.
Costco does pay good wages but the company engages in cost savings in other ways such as charging a membership fee.
The beauty of capitalism allows us to chose from whom we purchase goods and services.
