“You don’t have to be a socialist to get to heaven.”
I wonder if this headlong dive into the pit of socialism in France was led by the clergy as it was led by the liberation theology “communism Lite” clergy in South America, and now we have the Catholic Church espousing this socialist drivel as the only way to get to heaven.
As Catholics, we do not have to believe salvation can only be achieved by jumping on the socialist bandwagon, as the Church is proposing, and that the government must redistribute more and more of your money to the welfare state. Catholic social teaching is that we need to care for the poor. But how to do that exactly, and what role the government must play, that is left up to the laity to work out.
The Church does not require Catholics to support the government taking increasingly more money from citizens to expand the welfare state, stagnate the economy and leave future generations with crippling debt.
Why cannot intelligent clergy and laity alike realize it never worked and, will never work, even on an international level as Catholic Church leadership would lead us to believe, you eliminate a man’s ability to improve his lot in life, and he will ultimately end up doing the minimum to survive.
