More broad based accusations of others from our liberal writer in Carlyle. Most government anti-poverty programs have not had good outcomes. The House Budget Committee reported, in 2014 there are 92 federal programs to help the poor with a total spend of $799 billion. Since the start of “War on Poverty” in 1965 we have spent trillions.
Are we better off? In some ways yes, the working poor live better than in 1965 with material goods, housing and food assistance, but murders and crimes against African-Americans, mostly by other African-Americans is very high as are single parent families. Some government assistance rules have broken up the traditional two parent family and the war on drugs resulted in countless gang related murders and imprisonment of minorities for drug crimes.
Most agree a two-parent family is the key to success in raising children. The same goes for whites as for minorities. It is not racist to ask those on taxpayer funded poverty programs to be responsible in how they live. Many on assistance are genuinely disabled, injured war veterans and the elderly who deserve our help. But is it fair for the taxpayer to accept that we must support a single mother with several children from different fathers? That goes for all races.
Finally, Democrats have governed most failing cities for decades with bad schools, declining neighborhoods and a loss of working class families fleeing to better areas. The readers can decide if this is racist or realistic.
