Our readers comment on the week’s news in our Sound-off column.
The TV stations reporting of Illinois Senior Centers being shut down because of the budget controversy has to be the most hypocritical pieces of journalism I have witnessed in my 75 year lifetime. What’s going on with the people sitting on their butt producing five and six children being unwed, and getting state aid for that, and others sitting on their butt when they are perfectly capable of working and they are collecting Welfare? Where is the equality in that? Seniors who have worked all their life and need a little helping hand, in their final years, while others, capable of working, just milk the system. Take that money and use it on the seniors.
Never miss a local story.
What the liberal secular progressives are doing to our country, more television coverage of Cecil the lion than about Planned Parenthood, carefully killing unborn humans to prevent harming the organs to be harvested and sold. And a judge has ordered that no more of these recordings of Planned Parenthood conversations may be shown. Hillary Clinton comments “Planned parenthood is a healthcare option for women”. And Planned Parenthood gets millions of our tax dollars every year.
Donating fetal tissue is not different than a person being asked to donate a loved one’s organs. The woman has already decided to terminate the pregnancy, so why not donate the tissue for medical study? This practice has most likely has been extremely useful in prenatal research.
My comments and thanks go to Glenn McCoy for his two cartoons: Wednesday, July 29, for the Wizard of Oz and Planned Parenthood, and Aug. 1 for Hitler and his cronies. They so depict what Planned Parenthood are doing now, uncovering these facts. His cartoons are excellent portrayals. Thank you Glenn for depicting the horrors of Planned Parenthood.
If women have the right to control their own bodies, anyway they see fit, up to and including destroying an embryo through abortion. Will somebody tell me why prostitution is then illegal? Women should be able to decide who they want to have sex with and under what conditions. That should also be included. I don’t understand.
The slaughter of the animals must stop, Cecil the lion, horses corralled and shipped to Canada and Mexico for a slaughter, against the law. Elephants being killed for their tusks, and sold at high prices. Baby seals being beaten over the head and skinned while alive. Stop the slaughtering and let the animals live in peace.
When someone wants to walk behind my car while it’s moving and while I’m backing up in a shopping center parking lot, they expect me to see them coming. Not every car has cameras, not sure I would believe it anyway. Only my personal vision has saved a number of lives, but they are crazy. No body walks in front of a moving car, you shouldn’t teach your children to walk behind a moving car. Please stop this.
I’m calling about the funeral they had for the police dog. I’ve never seen any other big deal for a police dog, just like it was a person. It tied up the police officers for hours of taxpayers’ money. It seemed a little overdone for a dog.
Dog funeral II
I love dogs and respect law enforcement officials for their contributions to the community. I think the recent “funeral” for police canine “Sari” was a bit over the top. Monroe County Sheriff Department’s Lt. Jim Lansing lost his longtime companion. A private ceremony would have been more apropos and wouldn’t have wasted a lot of taxpayer time and resources.
Truckers beware, the city of O’ Fallon has found a way to get more money out of the working man’s pocket. Buy a permit before you come in or they are going to cash in on you going out.
I applaud the person who wrote the obituary for Cathy Rainbolt, Aug. 2. The honesty, the empathy, the trying to help this young girl was amazing. She did not fail this girl, unfortunately the system, maybe the drugs are the reason, and I totally applaud the honesty of this obituary. More parents should be like this.
Pick it up
I was on I-64 heading west toward Fairview Heights and turned right onto Illinois 159 and, lo and behold, the construction company had been working on the lanes overnight and the island between the lanes is covered with soft drink cups. Couldn’t the workers at least have enough sense to pick up their trash, and throw it on their trucks? Leaving it on the median looks bad. People, pick up your trash.
I’m going to give up on the Dear Abby column in the newspaper. Recently, her only response for a pregnant 16-year-old, who was in desperate need of help, was to go to Planned Parenthood. There are pregnancy care centers, homes for unwed mothers, there are social service agencies, like Lutheran, Catholic and Baptist, who will help that young girl get though an event like that. There are adoption resources, safe havens once the baby comes if you feel you cannot handle it. And a place for the baby to be left and taken care of.
The polls recently indicate the voters are fed up with Congress, and they are starting to show more support for people like Donald Trump, on the Republican side, Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side. What would happen if Trump from the Republicans and Sanders form the Democrats would get together and run as an independent team? Those two, based on the aggravation of the American people, just might get elected.
Still the one
Donald Trump still gets my vote.
This is regard to “Deadlock damage,” written by Lynn Jarman the LINC Inc. Director in Swansea. How much is she making? She is the executive director, and before she needs more money, she is explaining the deadlock budget and blaming the political system in Illinois. Don’t blame Rauner, he is trying to clean this state up. Why doesn’t the BND find out how much money Lynn is making and why she can’t donate her services? Then I’d have more respect for Lynn Jarman.
You have got to be kidding me? Memorial day for Michael Brown, a thief as shown on TV, a drug dealer and many other crimes. Is this the type of person you would like your children to look up to for guidance and leadership? I don’t think so.
I would agree with the Belleville News Democrat’s hardcore view of the $500 impound fee for drunk driving, if it was applied to all offenders. But the citizens of St. Clair County know this is not always the case. Not that long ago, two judges got barely a slap on the wrist for their drunken escapade. And before that a Belleville police officer didn’t know what to do when confronted with a drunk police officer from the area. And, who knows how many other favors were given to the politically and brother hood of blue connected.
I wonder what the leaders of Iran would say if all Congressmen all stood up in both houses and said “Death to Iran”. Would they then meet with us? I doubt it.
The city of Fairview Heights is planning on instituting a property tax; it was discussed at their July meeting. You don’t want a property tax for Fairview Heights. You need to call your alderman and tell him/her that. You might also want to ask your alderman to look at cutting expenses.
Sadly, Scott Williams is no longer the City Manager in Collinsville. He has two personality traits most politicians cannot tolerate: honesty and integrity.
I believe we elected a new mayor in Fairview Heights and we thought we were going to get things done, and he is not there, ever. The person who is running the city is a paid headhunter. Look at all the employees retiring early. Mr. Kupsky needs to get it together.
I find it interesting the same woman who sued Wolf Branch for bullying is now suing her employer. Is that how people make their living these days, sue whoever they can?
After reading Bill Enyart’s assessment on the Iran Treaty, I thank the voters of the district that this man is no longer in office.
Pretend you’re a police officer and you pull over two cars for running a stop sign and changing lanes without signaling. One driver is polite and obedient, the other is irritable and acts like you’re harassing them. Which one gets a warning ticket and which one gets a real ticket?
What is happening in Shiloh? Recently a man was killed near the new Shiloh-owned Yorktown golf course. Then gunshots were fired around the Lebanon Avenue Hanger and Phillips 66. This same area service station has been robbed multiple times. The Phillips 66 was a Shiloh police substation, and frequently the police patrol the area. Could it be the Section 8 apartments in both areas that are bringing this crime to Shiloh?
Last week there was a big editorial about gun control — “Gun confiscation”, by Timothy Egan, a liberal editor for the New York Times — about how they want to take guns and get them off the street and how unsafe the guns are. He said something that was utterly ridiculous: He said it is better to go to a city or state with gun restrictions than the open carry states. I guess this guy has never been to Chicago.
I’ve decided to side with many who believe the Washington Redskins should change their name; let’s honor our elected representatives who to do everything they can to not benefit US citizens, let’s change the name to the Washington Lying Weasels or Washington Gravy-sucking Pigs.
