Does racism exist in America? I felt that I was discriminated against while working for a major electrical utility company in Illinois. I have experience displaying a Confederate flag, denied many employment opportunities that whites enjoy for over 20 years. I feel that my life was threatened and I was targeted for filing complaints. I have heard stories from other black employees who are going through the same thing.
When these acts are complained about I feel that the company tries to cover it up instead of making an attempt to end the problem(s). I couldn’t take it anymore, so I was recently forced to resign or constructively discharged from my position.
In central Illinois, working in the trades positions there are approximately 250 plus white employees and around 10 black employees employed at this utility company. In the past year, at least four of the blacks have been forced to vacate their positions.
So, my questions for you, the editor and the American people: where do blacks go for help? We can’t depend on the cops or human resources and upper management at our jobs. What do blacks have to do to feel free and enjoy the same rights and opportunities as whites?
Never miss a local story.
