Tired of attacks
I’m a Republican who is very tired of the paper’s attacks on our State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly, because they are totally unjustified. He has been fairer, more thorough, more scrupulous in prosecution, and done a better job than any other state’s attorney in the last 35 years.
I’m calling about the Sunday article concerning County Corner Rick Stone: What a disappointment that Brendan Kelly failed to understand that he is here to serve the people, not the St. Clair County Democratic Central Committee. Taxpayers should be disappointed, revolted and upset that prosecution never took place.
In reading over State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly’s response for his failure to prosecute Corner Rick Stone, I’d like Mr. Kelly to answer something for me. Since Mr. Stone’s serving of subpoenas was improper, does that mean we have to go back and redo all those cases?
I think the big difference between an Iran Treaty — or whatever they want to call it — and the proper action is that we should be giving them an ultimatum, not a choice. I’m tired of being threatened by this country. We should begin flyovers with B-52s or B2s immediately, to indicate it’s only a matter of time before we decide to drop something.
Vote it down
Anybody else remember this president saying, “We will not enter into a deal with Iran unless we can inspect anytime anywhere.” While this agreement does not allow for that, 24 hours’ notice. Can’t go on to the military base. No we can’t expect anytime anywhere, let’s vote it down.
Retired Tech Sgt. Frank Austin continues to criticize those of us who opposed the Vietnam War. History has proven us correct. We engaged in a war that we did not have the will to win militarily and politically. It is clearly a stain on our history.
I read Frank Austin’s letters with interest for the last 25 years. He was against the airport being built back 25 year ago. And, he was right the airport has cost us money with no end in sight. The county would be wise to see if Trump Enterprises would want to take over the airport and the county could get out of the picture.
Immigration without assimilation is invasion.
I’m reading about the Illinois Housing authority is going to provide down payments to help people buy homes. If they can’t afford the down payment, how are they going to afford the payments and the upkeep, and insurance?
I want everybody to take notice about this battle that is going on between the governor and the Democrat-controlled state legislature. This Illinois pension system is $112 billion short because of the misappropriation of funds. They are all screaming about the budgetary crisis in Illinois. This governor is only doing what he has to do.
I keep hearing so much about the gas prices going down to $2 a gallon. I guess St. Clair County didn’t get that message. If you go anywhere outside of Belleville, outside of Mount Vernon you get gas for $2.09. It’s ridiculous when the politicians let this go on. These big corporations gouging people at the gas pump.
Gas prices II
In less than a week, gas has jumped over 50 cents a gallon in the state of Illinois and metro-east. I find it amazing that with the price of crude today we could look back and gas should be sold for $1.25 to $1.50 a gallon. They are blaming a mishap in an Indiana refinery. Baloney, its just another way to gouge the consumer.
Should be saved
I have to agree with Patti Evansco’s letter concerning the senior programs in her area. Yes, they should be saved but, I ask, what did you do before the state started paying for these programs? Families should take care of their own instead of having the taxpayers take care of them. I have another solution: Why do we continue to pay for unwed mothers popping out children left and right and then letting the seniors hold the bag for that? Take the money from the unwed mother’s programs.
During this past week, demonstrations have been conducted to memorialize the death of a young man who made some very bad choices. The vast majority of us realize that if we 1) participate in a strong-armed robbery, 2) defy a police officer’s directive to stop walking in the middle of the street, 3) punch that police officer in the face, and 4) grab for his gun, then something very bad is going to happen.
Running the city
I see that the police aren’t running the city of Ferguson anymore, the protestors are.
Since when is it OK to shut down a major interstate to protest? This is ridiculous. You are on the Interstate and these people have the interstate shut down. If you try to do anything, they try to kick your car.
When is the memorial service for all the businesses that no longer exist in Ferguson?
Convoy of Hope
I have questions about the Convoy of Hope that is coming to O’Fallon. I’m not a resident, but I think some questions need to be asked. So much money is being spent on transportation of guests that could have been used for direct assistance? In offering no questions asked assistance, is this perpetuating a lack of accountability, which is a major cause of problems in our society across the boards.
The bottom line about the Republican candidates’ debate is that they were all well prepared except for Donald Trump, who is distinguished only by claiming to be a wheeler dealer among other criminals. The fact is they didn’t answer the questions that needed to be answered. The questions that were asked were handled fine, the problem is they didn’t ask the real questions of how is America going to survive in a global economy with a bad economic record?
All money that has been paid out for lighting East Main Street in downtown Belleville, from $300 for one light bulb, to $24,000 for the stupid lights going across Main Street, how come on a Saturday night only one side of the street’s main lights are lit?
I would like to thank my precinct committeeman, Bud Watts, for coming to my aid. My fence was overcrowded with weeds from a vacant house next door. And I couldn’t get any help from anyone. He came on a Saturday and worked from 9 until 7 and I appreciated that. The new people in City Hall are doing something extra. He’s from East St. Louis. Thank you so much.
Doing their jobs
In response to the Elizabeth Hentic letter thanking the adult workers. Those adult workers take home a very handsome paycheck. It’s a job they chose. Policemen choose to be policemen, firemen choose to be firemen. These workers are doing what they get paid for and they get paid a big paycheck for it. I know that for a fact. And, they enjoy doing what they doing, they are not doing us a favor, so quit acting like they are doing us a favor.
It’s really sad to see the Republican governor take office and then try to act like a tyrant because of an inability to communicate with the legislature. I understand how strong Mike Madigan is, and how difficult it might be. It’s not OK to victimize the citizens of this state, trying to knock heads against each other all the time. Illinois is still ranked 11th in the country in terms of economic strength, despite its debt. Harming the people and shutting down things like the Sparta World Champion Shooting Range and things like that, only tells people to stay away.
There have been articles recently noting the decline in the popularity of Pope Francis. It’s not hard to understand — the pope has attacked capitalism as being the source of poverty and hunger. Many couples that live in poorer nations have a meager income and because of the Catholic Church position against birth control, they end up having many more children than they can feed and clothe.
Shouldn’t the NRA own or pay for the Sparta Shooting Complex instead of Illinois taxpayers?
How many leaders does Scott Air Force Base have? Seems like there is a picture of a new one in the paper every week taking command.
Wow, what a coincidence. Right when Obama uses his power to sign the Greenhouse order for the United States, the dormant gold mine has its waste water released by an EPA group, what a show. Obama will have all the good-paying mining jobs, coal production and steel mills closed and most of the people will lose a good-paying, $20 an hour job and replace it with an $8 part-time jobs at McDonald’s and Walmart.
I’m calling about Caseyville Township, I agree with Brad Vanhoose article, the trustees are doing a great job; making a new parking lot, fixing up the roof. The key to the whole thing is the clerk, and his staff David Jacknewitz. He’s done a great job with all the Freedom of Information requests. I’m an 80-year-old and I attend the meetings. I’ve filed for Freedom of Information and he’s always given them to me in a timely fashion.
Don’t be fooled by the $49 airfare to Las Vegas. I booked five tickets round-trip to Orlando at 69 each, which should have been $345 one way, $690 round trip. By time they added all the fees and taxes, those tickets cost me $1,100. Don’t be fooled by what you read.
Good for Rauner. Now maybe Mayor Eckert will start to use our taxes for Government projects, instead of giving our tax money to private businesses to succeed.
Instead of the St. Clair County authorities going out and harassing elderly ladies because their weeds are too tall along their fence, threaten them with six months in jail or a 5,000 fine — if I’d been the lady, I’d say take me to jail. Take some of those kids in the juvenile delinquency house, have them pull the weeds and then charge the lady. Wouldn’t that make sense?
The festivals and homecoming in O’Fallon ended long ago due to low revenue benefit and high police expense paid by the sponsors. Those weren’t events run by the City of O’Fallon.
