Matt Hawkins, I fully agree with you and Dorothy Joshway. The East St. Louis City Council decision to hire Alvin Parks was done with the deliberate intent to derail Mayor Emeke Jackson-Hicks’ election by the citizens of East St. Louis.
Robert Eastern and other council members did not only slap Emeke Jackson-Hicks in the face but they also slapped the entire city of East St. Louis in the face and told them, by public display, that their vote and voice means nothing. In fact, the council has rendered the electorate powerless.
How about during the presidential primary in April 2016 add to the ballot a referendum to restore the mayoral government and do away with the city management style of government?
Also, if the Illinois constitution or city charter allows for a recall of elected officials, recall the council, and cause a runoff of the general election in November 2016, so the people of East St. Louis would have representation that empowers them not to molest their vote.
I think it is a far stretch to go to the prosecutor, who can’t do anything because you can’t prosecute someone for poor judgment. If that was the case, we all would be in jail, including the prosecutor.
How about for the first time “we” do it right this time?
Anger and emotionalism does not resolve the issue. It was those demons that got us into this mess.
