In the Bible, the Prophet Habakkuk was called the prophet of “why.” He had questions for God. I have questions for the city officials of East St. Louis.
Why do we pay a city manager $100,000 a year and a mayor $50,000 a year for part-time, and lay off police officers and firemen? Don’t we, the citizens of East St. Louis, deserve to have protection? Why are we the “laughingstock” of the country?
How long will we as intelligent people allow such government deficiency? Who is responsible for auditing the treasury of the city? Why didn’t he have a security bond to protect the taxpayers’ taxes to conduct city business, including repairing streets, cutting weeds and tearing down burned out houses and decaying houses and school buildings?
I am just asking why.
Never miss a local story.
