Alzheimer’s isn’t just a disease. Alzheimer’s is a long and tiring journey. Families and loved ones devote their time and energy to provide care during this extensive journey, often without a plan that provides guidance and support. I know about the challenges of this journey all too well as the wife of a husband who lost his journey to Alzheimer’s disease.
Recently, I had the honor of meeting with U.S. Rep. Mike Bost to discuss the H.O.P.E. for Alzheimer’s Act currently before Congress. The bill would enable physicians to provide care planning allowing newly diagnosed individuals and their family to learn about medical and non-medical treatments, clinical trials and, most importantly, support services available in the community. Congressman Bost recognized the value of this important legislation and immediately offered to co-sponsor the H.O.P.E. for Alzheimer’s Act.
Thank you Congressman Bost for your leadership, support and understanding the heroic sacrifices families make in caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and the importance of providing them with the professional guidance and support that they so desperately need.
