Clean them up
I agree with the comment about David Jacknewitz stickers, clean them up. Give the clown a ticket at least. He has his trash picked up by people working for Caseyville Township sewer system, how cheap. We are on fixed income, we pay for our trash pickup. So should he. Bet he has a relative working at sewer plant?
Never miss a local story.
There has been much talk about the Freeburg Midgets. Some years ago there was a comic strip called Mutt and Jeff. Mutt was the short man, Jeff was the taller. Maybe Freeburg could become known as the Freeburg Mutts. Only thing about this it might hurt some dog owner’s feelings who owns a mutt.
Totally missing from the Pope’s speech to Congress today was that the word abortion or the fact that body parts are being sold. It was not even mentioned. But he did have empathy for killers and rapists, and for abolishing the death penalty.
In watching the Pope’s speech this morning, John Boehner looked so disinterested. All he is worrying about is blowing his nose, wiping his nose, his mouth, and looking so unconcerned. He is supposed to be the leader of the Congress. Let me tell you, he is something else to be desired. He could care less about the Pope being here.
I have to differ with Debbie Thomas — she said the Catholic Church does not and will not change its teachings about faith and morals. I was not allowed to receive the sacraments for the 50 years I was married to my husband, because we were not married in the church. Now, the pope says let those people receive the sacraments. Abortion was a sin, it was murder no matter how you looked at it. Now he wants to forgive the women who committed murder. Don’t tell me the church hasn’t changed. I don’t’ call myself a Catholic anymore, if they didn’t want me, I sure as heck didn’t want them.
On Sept. 23, William Daniels criticized Ann Harter because of her belief concerning the Catholic Church. He goes on to say if you want to try to truly be a Catholic, read your bible. I would like Mr. Daniels to show me in the bible where purgatory, indulgences, infant baptism, the Immaculate Conception of Mary, redemptive power of Mary are because, obviously, I’ve missed them over the years. He’s mistaking the bible for church doctrine.
The vacuum of leadership of the United Sates is the biggest problem of the world today.
I absolutely agree with letter writer Chris Ryan and all those who feel Ms. Davis should lose her job for not giving marriage licenses to gay couples. It is the law of the land. She is not performing her job, much as the Muslim stewardess didn’t serve alcohol, and she loses her job. I would also say by that same logic, President Obama should lose his job — he has been selectively enforcing laws through the justice department during his whole time in office.
Apparently the Millstadt town fathers consider a cellphone tower to be more asthetic than the iconic water tower. Most towns take pains to conceal these towers. But the Millstadt town council somehow felt it deserved placement in the center of town, obstructing the view of its historic tin man water tower. It appears the fathers want Millstadt to be the ugliest town in the area. How pathetic.
If anyone wants solid proof of just how big of hypocrites the Democrats are, it was quite evident yesterday when the defunding of Planned Parenthood was being debated on the floor of Congress. A Democratic congressman from Pennsylvania got up and spoke his peace that Democrats cannot vote yes on a bill when they do not know all the facts. About three years ago, he was ready to vote yes for Obamacare with knowing the facts.
Speaker of the House Michael Madigan is bankrupting Illinois. He’s been directly involved for 25 years as speaker and as a direct result of his inaction and ineptitude the state is now approaching bankruptcy. He has the nerve to present a budget adding $4 billion to the deficit for the governor’s review. He needs to be impeached.
Strollers and dogs
At the Belleville Oktoberfest, for the second year in a row, I encountered strollers and dogs that didn’t belong there. The police didn’t do a damn thing.
It’s a shame the Belleville Oktoberfest had to be cut short because idiots don’t know how to behave in public. If you have to act like a fool, stay away from the picnics. Don’t ruin other people’s time.
We certainly don’t need any Syrian refugees in this country. Let them stay in Syria. That’s their problem. We have enough trouble taking care of the millions of Mexican refugees.
Check it out
An article in the BND Sept. 21 says US Sec. State John Kerry will accept 85,000 refugees. Please research: will they become American citizens, given social security numbers, be allowed SNAP cards, etc.? Please check this out.
Why all the disgust with Alderwoman Janet Schmidt who sits on the finance committee despite filing for bankruptcy? Why is there no outrage that Mayor Mark Eckert also has financial issues? It’s known he and his wife had a $11,000 federal IRS tax lien for their flower shop before they moved. How was that cleared up before buying a building? If he can’t manage his own finances, why the city?
When is Brendan Kelly going to investigate Geri Boyer of Kaskaskia Engineering and Mayor Eckert? They are taking Belleville left and right. First the $38 million scam for the new development across from Our Lady of the Snows. Boyer is getting another $100,000 for a roundabout that they should have taken care of four years ago for a lot less money.
I see in the paper that another roundabout is coming near the Armory area. The problem with roundabouts is no one reads the yield signs. I was on East Main entering Belleville Public Square and seven cars blasted through the intersection coming up South Illinois Street without even slowing down. These may be good, but these signs are being ignored and that is stupid.
Hillary Clinton’s comment about putting price controls on drugs is about the most idiotic thing we have heard from her, and typical. How do you enforce price controls on someone trying to develop a product? You will reduce development of new drugs that way. There are other means to do it. Wait for legislator Mike Bost to come out with proposals, which he is doing and it will be better than Hillary’s.
Which is worse?
I don’t know who is worse, Belleville, with their manholes in the street with nothing but bumps or the County Highway Department on Illinois 159 cutting our grass in the ditches and then rutting the ditches so they need a backhoe to straighten them out. Must have the same people working for the city of Belleville as they do for state.
I find it odd that St. Clair County can find money to cut the grass, oil and chip Triple Lakes Road, but they can’t find the money to cut grass and repair roads in the cities where we pay taxes. I guess somebody lives out there on Triple Lakes Road who is a St. Clair County big wig.
America does have talent — I found it in the intelligence of two writers to the BND forum on Sept. 17. Subjects were: “Trump’s statements,” about his bombastic buffoon braggadocio comments, and “Abused became Abusers”, on why marriage licenses were not issued to the homosexual community.
For those residents who think Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert will be doing something about Lindenwood University students causing problems in residential neighborhoods, you will be disappointed. This college is a gold mine for Belleville. Money talks more than the concerns of lifelong residents.
This is about the sewer rates in Caseyville Township. The reason Bruce Canty doesn’t have a comment is because he sold himself out to Dwight Kay and Kyle McCarter, the Republicans, and he is going to go with the developers and try to cheat the regular people who pay sewer bills. He’s only out for the developers and not the regular citizens. That’s terrible.
I live in St. Louis Gardens in Cahokia and I have jets taking off around me. It disturbs my evening. I find it odd that when Mid-America was put up they bought people out around them. When Lambert expanded, they bought those people out around them. Driving through St. Louis Gardens, I’m less than 500 feet from a runway. When are you going to do the right thing and buy out St. Louis Gardens?
In Thursday’s paper inside 4C there is an article ‘This is what you need to know about the hajj.’ Why do we as Americans need to know about the hajj? This is America, we are a Christian country, and we do not need to hear anything about the hajj. They want to practice that they can go back to where they belong.
It was not many years ago that homosexual advocates called for tolerance toward their lifestyle. Now that they have won in the political arena, they show no tolerance toward those with different views. No accommodations will be allowed for those in businesses who service marriage ceremonies or county clerks who issue marriage licenses. Those who once advocated for tolerance are now forcing their morality on others with a vengeance.
After the last Republican debate, candidate Carly Fiorina lamented that only women are unfairly judged by their looks. Join the crowd. If Donald Trump had a nickel for every comment or joke ever made about his hair he’d be a billionaire. Oh wait, he is.
I always enjoy a good letter to the editor and John Schrand’s letter about “It’s a Wonderful Life” director Frank Capra, was no exception. I don’t think it was so excellent that it warranted being printed twice. The identical letter appeared on Sept. 15 in the BND.
I agree with the letter from Pete Hill of Swansea about replacing politicians. You can start by your own elected officials in Swansea and how they have gouged the township residents with the sewer service contract. As soon as these guys get in office they start increasing taxes and coming up with new fees. Very little research or impact studies are done on new tax proposals or fees and these boards just rubber-stamp anything to bring in more money at the cost to taxpayers. It’s a travesty.
