Thank you for printing the article on the Merchant Marines in World War II on Aug. 16.
I am the spouse of a deceased Merchant Marine who served abroad many ships during World War II.
We attended many Merchant Marine reunions who lobbied for years to get compensation not only for themselves, but also their spouses.
My husband was so proud of his service, he had me sew his service pins on his Hoffman Island Maritime service hat.
Never miss a local story.
I hope and pray our government will recognize our remaining Merchant Marines with the passage of the bill HR 563 honoring them for their service which they deserve after so many years.
