I am a law-abiding gun owner and have absolutely no fear that common sense gun control means, “The president wants to disarm the citizens of this country.” Uninformed people easily become paranoid by this conservative, fear-mongering nonsense.
Republican politicians receive 94 percent of the gun lobby’s money. This blood money buys favorable legislation to protect huge profits for gun manufacturers and dealers. It’s not about the Second Amendment.
Republican legislation: Requires the FBI to destroy background check information within 24 hours; underfunds the ATF; prohibits them from investigating gun dealers more than once a year, collecting data on gun violence, and disclosing ballistics and gun traces to the public. Cop-killer bullets are legal and people on the terrorist watch list are permitted to buy guns. This is insane.
Poor arguments of the gun nuts are: “Chicago has tough gun laws and a large amount of gun violence.” Of the guns found at crime scenes, 60 percent come from nearby Wisconsin and Indiana, where Republican gun laws are weak. “More gun laws will not stop all shootings.” Stop signs and traffic lights don’t stop all traffic accidents. “Enforce existing gun laws.” Existing gun laws have been weakened by Republican politicians on the take from the gun lobby.
