Due to the budget crisis in Illinois, funding for Meals on Wheels has been drastically cut. Think about that for a minute. There are currently 25 people receiving meals from our Collinsville Township Senior Citizens Center. Senior Services Plus in Alton, delivers the meals to our center and volunteers deliver them to the homes. Twenty-five people will not receive a meal. And that’s just the ones we deliver. There are other organizations and churches that deliver meals in Collinsville also. Can you go a day or several days without anything to eat? I don’t think so.
Our elected officials have a difficult job. They must make decisions every day that affect us. They must vote with their conscience on many important issues. I think this is one of those decisions. We are asking every state official to please put party loyalty aside and do whatever you can to solve this budget crisis and restore funding for senior citizens and needy people. The time has come to act. Do what’s best for the citizens of our state and not what’s best for the political party.
We thank every elected official for your time and for your service to our state.
