Our readers react to the week’s news:
How much work is a $20,000 bonus worth?
I’d like to know what the airport director does for his bonus of over $20,000. Why does he deserve that when he already makes over $124,000 for his regular pay? What did he do for his regular pay? We see what he did for his bonus, now operating at a loss. Maybe emptying the waste cans, for his hard work. What about the industry that made some of the income? The passengers, not him. He should be demoted. There would be people standing in line for half that pay!
A bonus for operating at a loss
Never miss a local story.
The article about the Director at MidAmerica Airport receiving a $20,000 plus bonus for operations at MidAmerica Airport illustrates on a small scale what is wrong with the state of Illinois. If you read the article in its entirety, the bottom line is the Airport is continuing to lose money. The Airport ran at roughly a $900,000 operating deficit. This means the director is running a business at a loss. Yet his performance standards allow him to be paid a bonus for this loss.
The good guy gets punished
As the kids say, “really”? JC Penney fired a guard for doing his job too well? I understand JC Penney had rules for their guards. Instead of rewarding the good guy, we are punishing the good guy. Where dos the line for picketing the JC Penney store at St. Clair Mall start? I will be there. Penny’s has gotten the last dime out of me. I hope others join the boycott.
Bring back the outhouse
To the Collinsville resident who complained about his water bill. I agree, it’s very expensive. The sewer rate is higher than the water rate. I say, bring back the outhouse Mr. Mayor and City Council, it would be such a green thing to do.
Still on the bench
I’m reading in Saturday’s paper that a judge ruled an East St. Louis candidate can remain on the ballot. The ruling judge was LeChien. I was reading LeChien, Baricevic and Haida all stated the reason they didn’t have to run as retention judges is that they were resigning, Dec. 31, 2015. If that’s the case, why is LeChien still on the bench?
Got to love it, Rome is burning and Jerry Costello II is worrying about what color hunting vest we should be wearing. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Doctors say that if a person infected with the Zika virus is bitten by an uninfected mosquito, it becomes infected and can spread the virus to others. Good thing all immigrants are given health screenings so they won't pass on Zika, TB, measles, and a number of tropical diseases the US doesn't regularly see.
In response to Mr. Korte’s comment to that statement that the public has not had a raise in years: “That is not his problem.” Is he in the right profession, being Supervisor of the Belleville Township, which only hands out assistance for the poor? Has he forgotten it’s the taxpayers that haven’t had raises that make his and his employee’s paychecks?
Get out and vote
The gall of this Belleville Township Supervisor, Dennis Korte and his remarks about wanting a 3 percent raise for his two employees that has been voted out of existence. That arrogance and attitude towards taxpayers in this county is just what we have come to expect. I bet he is a Democrat with that attitude. It is outrageous how you people vote this destroyers back in office. Only 12 percent of you voters voted last election. Get out and vote this time or else you will be crying
No tolerance for the poor
I’m calling bout Lillian Schneider’s article about Township supervisor, Dennis Korte and how caring he is about the poor. It sounds like Korte has no empathy, no compassion, and should probably have a job somewhere out of the public’s view so he cannot interact with people, because he has no tolerance for the poor.
Not a good idea
Why do we send students and adults at the March For Life in Washington, D.C. when terrible weather was predicted? They were put in danger. When area schools close for 3 inches of snow, but we send all these people to the march and put themselves and others in harm’s way, it doesn’t make sense. It was rather irresponsible of the parents and the committee that decided to do this.
A sense of humor
I love the Lord’s sense of humor and his creativity — no pun intended. He is our creator. After nearly 40 years of Pro-Life trips to Washington, D.C. in the midst of winter with very limited publicity, and the crucial year of 2016, a huge snowstorm provides front-page coverage for the March For Life and other marches around the county. The Pro-life Anti-abortion movement is alive and well and is growing greatly, check it out.
Cuts put citizens at risk
I wonder if it has occurred to anybody that by cutting the sheriff’s department budget and forcing them into a hiring freeze, and not filling a vacant position, Mark Kern and company are putting the citizens of St. Clair County at risk. Correctional officers in the jail are already working shorthanded with over 400 prisoners and an average number of eight officers on to handle them. Something needs to be done, the people of St. Clair County need to be heard on this. People are going to get hurt because Kern is more interested in having an Airport as a memorial to his great reign of power than common public safety.
Obama says our vetting system for gun ownership is inadequate. This about a country who has driver’s licenses, passports, birth records and property records all intact. Huge databases. But it is inadequate. On the other hand, he says we don’t have to worry about the Islamic State, ISIS people sneaking into our country, because we will check them all.
Do we really want Hillary?
In regard to Frank Austin’s comments. He’s right, do we really want a Hillary Clinton in office? She could never could remember or recall anything when they would ask her specific questions up through the years. She has a bad memory then the Benghazi situation she has a headache, and decided to go to bed. And later, she said it didn’t matter, they were probably going to die anyway.
Bottled water giveaway
I heard on the morning news that East St. Louis School District 189 is donating bottled water to people in Flint, Mich. Then they receive a $20 million grant and then they complain about not having enough money in their funds. Why give away bottled water, if you don’t have enough money to operate your own schools. Whose idea is this? Is it coming out of some big shot’s salary that is being skimmed off the top? Take a look at the idiots and this policy and what they started.
Send the word
Let the governor get this state back on track. What’s wrong with term limits? This guy is trying to get this state on track. Send a letter to Chicago and Springfield, and let Mike Madigan know that you support this governor to do what it takes to get our state back.
