Years ago, when I taught poetry in my high school English classes, I tried to empathize that poetic devices were not limited to poetry but were also useful in prose. And in my BND letters, I have tried to use metaphors to clarify the issue discussed.
So I appreciated how Chris Tabing’s recent letter on Hillary’s emails ended in a metaphor. In discussing the damage that the emails were having on her campaign, the letter ended with, “Hillary just handed her foes a silver bullet.”
Now, while Hillary’s foes may see that as a silver bullet during the primary rantings of the GOP candidates, the general public in November may share the view Bernie Sanders took in a debate when he said people don’t care about those damn emails.
In keeping with the ammunition theme, maybe a better metaphor for those emails during November should be not a silver bullet, but a BB pellet.
