Trust me details, are coming soon.
It’s been over a year since the Belleville Council annexed the Shrine property with big dreams of five restaurants and three hotels.
Way back then, Mayor Eckert stated that he had been in secret meetings with the developer and that the name of the upscale hotel would be announced in a couple of weeks.
We’re still waiting.
If a hotel has committed to build at the complex, their name should be released to the public. All I can imagine is that there isn’t and never was a name brand hotel interested in committing to the project. Now we are hearing of a soccer complex being developed at Union Station. What will happen to the promised Belleville complex with this competing complex? Will the Belleville complex ever be built?
Mayor Eckert tells us the word of the month is “trustworthiness.” He should practice what he preaches. He is not being trustworthy to the public when he continues to promise details and never delivers.
Now the taxpayers are going to fund a $2.4 million expansion of the sewer system. Are we to trust the mayor when he says that the promised TIF revenue will pay for the expansion? Or should we just open our wallets knowing that we the taxpayers will ultimately be paying the price?
