As Executive Director of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce, I’m pleased to voice the support of our 600 business members to the efforts of Chairman Mark Kern and St. Clair County for the relocation of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency West Facility to Scott Air Force Base in the county.
Clearly the NGA West relocation to St. Clair County would have a tremendous positive economic impact on Belleville and the surrounding communities. NGA West currently employs more than 3,000 highly qualified workers with potential to grow to 4,500 or more. During construction of the new campus over 15,000 temporary construction jobs would be provided along with local purchases of construction materials.
With both the Defense Information Systems Agency and the United States Transportation Command being headquartered at Scott AFB and being two of the NGA West largest clients, relocation to a site within a secure and close proximity is a very compelling argument. The proposed site also offers easy access to Interstate 64 with the new Reider Road exit and close to the site is MidAmerica Airport and the Scott MetroLink station is only a short bus ride away.
The positives of the move for NGA West to St. Clair County far outnumber the negatives. It’s imperative to our country that the decision makers spend our federal tax dollars in the most efficient and economical way. The clear choice for NGA is St. Clair County.
John L. Lengerman, Executive Director, Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce
