I’m a big Glenn McCoy fan, but took exception to his recent cartoon in regards to the ongoing battle to host NGA-West. His depiction of the “patient,” characterized in military headgear and sporting the label “Scott AFB’s bid for NGA Site,” was news to me.
Throughout this whole long and well-publicized solicitation process, I’ve never heard a peep from Scott as to their druthers one way or another. Scott’s silence is fitting since the military is supposed to be apolitical in nature. Public comment on the ongoing fray would be inappropriate whether they supported it or not.
In reality this has been a St. Clair County-led endeavor and McCoy would have better served the county’s movers and shakers as well as his expansive cartoon followership by labeling his patient, “St. Clair County’s bid for NGA Site.”
While we in the metro-east may be intimately familiar with all the details, McCoy’s cartoons routinely have a much wider national/international distribution. I’m afraid this particular offering just served to muddy the waters.
Never miss a local story.
All this said ... the doctor’s “obstruction” diagnosis in the cartoon is definitely right on target.
