In response to Sharron Lindsey’s letter, “All guns are designed to kill.” While some may be less powerful, such as a .22 caliber target pistol, if used close-up it too can kill a human being. All guns are “assault weapons” as they can be used to assault a person using deadly force. Liberals like to pin this label on “look alike” military style weapons, but the reality is all guns can be assault weapons.
Sales of rifles and handguns are legal because we have the 2nd amendment but states are permitted to invoke regulations such as concealed and open carry restrictions and limitations on magazine capacity. Illinois requires a Firearms Owner Identification Card to buy a weapon and ammo and must be presented at a range before you can practice fire.
The type of weapon used in Orlando can also be used for hunting as a small high-velocity round kills prey much quicker and yes more humanely. It can also be used for target practice by lawful shooters. The FBI investigated the Orlando terrorist and the gun shop owner ran the required background checks, but like the Charleston, S.C. white supremacist terrorist, he passed the FBI checks. This was despite the gun store owner notifying law enforcement about Mateen wanting to buy ammo in bulk and Disney security notifying authorities about his behavior at their facility.
