Bonds have been approved for the new police station (five-star hotel) and city hall renovations. When TIF 3 expires, bond payments may be made with sales tax revenue. That means higher taxes. Where else are the payments coming from?
How many more payments come out of TIF 3?
The state is broke with no budget, going on two years. Where’s this going to leave the city. All the late fees, interest on non-payments, the state will probably have to raise taxes just like Belleville. Look at the shrine project. What’s it costing the city? Will this be like the Scheel Street development?
Just think — the kids may not start school on time. For Belleville, there will be no extra money for more police (The new five-star hotel won’t catch criminals). And, streets need to be repaired. Want your street fixed? Call the mayor and your alderman that voted for this project.
Before approving the new police station and city hall projects, it should have been decided how payments were going to be made after TIF 3 expired.
