A board member has a moral obligation to find and hire the very best. This means to engage in a thorough search and evaluation. To do otherwise is grossly irresponsible. I don’t know how widespread the political hiring is at Belle Valley since you operate in strict secrecy, but I do know it exists. An example is the hiring of Superintendent Louis Obernuefemann. There was not even a pretense of a search and evaluation. When I asked Board President Karen Kunz as to why they did not engage in a search, her reply was, “We’ve been there before.” I am not sure what that meant.
The results were predictable. I have reported may of my concerns about this behavior. Suffice it to say, I have absolutely no respect for him nor confidence in him.
It is inconceivable how a school board president can engage in such behavior and equally baffling how the board can acquiesce in it. There is no middle ground. Either you condone or condemn her behavior. Which is it?
